2026 TWUK League Race at BTW Club

December 7th saw the next hotly anticipated race in the 2026 TWUK League calendar. After a glorious start in Norfolk at the Aviation Museum, it was time for BTW Club to lay down a track for pilots to battle it out and score some points!

Driving from all over the UK, 12 pilots faced off and took on a twisty and compact track at BTW’s local Whoop Nights venue - CuttleBridge Inn.

The track was set in a compact style with plenty of elevation change. We have a 3m high frame used to really get the gates up into the rafters. This makes for a great 3D track where you are racing up and down, not just forwards! After the start gate, it's a race to the top up a right hand ladder. From the heights of the frame, there was a huge and fast sweeping S turn into the first tight section. A 180 turn and then a corkscrew confined by a pylon. This leads into an Immelmann at the back of the room before a series of 270 left, right, left turns. Only 1 long right turn around a pylon sends you back to the start gate to complete the lap. It was a long course for the space, but cleverly positioned gates meant there weren’t any collision points expected (unless someone went way off line)

Our resident race director Kai “Blueprint” Longshaw headed up the lap timer and got us rolling. With 12 pilots we split neatly into 3 heats of qualifying and started pounding out the laps. As we progressed, the top qualifying time kept dropping. Very quickly down from 30+ seconds, to sub 23 seconds within a couple packs as everyone learnt the track. Then it slowed as people started hunting the 20 second mark until Dirty McStinky - known whoop wizard from the Luminair race - cracked it with an incredibly fast lap. Now he just had to do it twice consecutively to lock that in as his qualifying time. And just before the end of the 12th round of qualifying he managed 2 x sub 20 second laps. Absolutely incredible flying!

But could he carry that forward into the finals?

With everyone having run through their qualifying races, the field was seeded into the 3  brackets for the finals racing

Now qualifying was done everybody could relax for the finals. The function room we use for Whoop nights is hosted by a couple bridge in. This is a pub and hotel on the east side of Birmingham that we have found to be really good value. The food here is excellent, offering 2 for 1 I'm nearly all of their main courses. But today is a Sunday and so, everybody grabbed a plate and tucked into a full carvery roast dinner.

C Main Finals

Scooby air got off to a terrible start in the first race. After a laugh and a bit of toast flying he went down and didn't get back up again. Best costume the 1 point he would have got had he finished but with a dnf he got zero points for that race. Jippyhesus had a very smooth and consistent flight bagging him first in the first race. But gen x was nipping at his heels taking second leaving third for Norfolk and good.

In the second race it seemed the gen x and gippy pieces wanted to swap places. Genx took the win here forcing gippy into second. No fucking good captain smooth and consistents taking third again. And Scooby improved on his first run taking forth by this time actually finishing.

This meant that jippy he's us and gen x were tied on points. Going into the final race it was all eyes on them to see who would win. But Scooby air was warmed up and had something to say. Unfortunately gippy had a tough race with several crashes leaving him low on battery. The pressure from Scooby air making itself known and letting him finish with his best result yet a second place for the BTW club pilot. Consistent as always and pulled up third place. But first went to gen x who ran away with the race ahead from the very beginning.

B Main Finals

This was a battle between the capital city pilots of hanworth tiny whoop club and the industrial North pilots from drone circle and tiny whoop staffordshire. Race direct blue print discovered just how hard it is to race and direct simultaneously suffering a crippling dnf on its first run. Train circle did his best to keep the hopes alive for the North but it was a runaway one two position for lexfpb and Jaggers.

But in the second final the hand came back hard taking first position after a blistering run. The hanworth boys squabbling for second with Lex just pipping Jaggers to the post. And blueprint taking for finishing this run after too many mistakes left him at the back and unable to catch up.

Into the final race for be main and it was neck and neck between the hand and Jaggers both with 13 points. But still in with a good shot was lex with 12 points. This final race would decide who won be main, and they all wanted it. Jumping off the line it was a frantic race with everyone pushing. There were some really close corners where woops were neck and neck. Blueprint certainly had his best flight of the pack but after briefly leading went down and couldn't catch back up. By the end it was Lex who whipped around the track fastest taking first position. Second went to Jagger's after a battle with the hand taking third. Unfortunately taking fourth position.

A Main Finals

By a vote it was decided that c and b mean would do three laps in their finals. And the a main final would be 4 laps. In all the excitement of the close racing the best setting haven't been changed and so even after a blistering start the first race had to be rerun.

Grabbing a fresh set of batteries the pilots lined up again with the blood already pumping. The Race started and they were off. All the pilots in this group were so fast it was back and forth for all positions during the first lap. A great battle was on between Martian and Dirty McStinky for first place with Martian just clinching the win.

In the second race the flying got more raggedy as pressure started to build. Martian and dirty went back at it, but many rolls rule had the flight of his life and took first position from them. Unfortunately little man had a terrible flight and ended early with a dnf. But after two races this left Martian with a 3 points lead over Minirollsrule meaning nothing but first place would be good enough to take victory. I'm three points behind mini rolls rule was Dirty McStinky breathing down his neck. Jumping off the line into the final race it was all to play for but calamity struck for two pilots. Comes to the pressure and had a terrible flight deciding to retire early and accept the dnf. And in the heat of battle mini rolls rule battery let him down failing just one land before the end. With lights out for two pilots Martian McFly comfortably walked away with the wind and little man took second helping score some valuable points.
