This is something I've been dreaming of doing for a long while and finally, after a lot of preparation, research and brainstorming, we are ready to launch!

Like most flying clubs up and down the country, new people are introduced to model flying and drones by generous people at a local club letting them have a go on their kit. This is their personal, good quality and pretty expensive kit to let a novice have a go, knowing a crash is almost guaranteed.

This will still be the case at loads of clubs, but what if you could have a taster, or a couple hours with some dedicated instruction on a solid and easy to use drone kit? No need to worry about crashing someone’s pride and joy! And you can avoid working out what all the buttons do on the crazy complicated radios?

And what if you’ve had a go, and want to fly, but it’s just too far to a club? But how do you start your own club? What about the law? Do you need insurance? What size drone can you fly?

It became increasingly obvious that there is very little structured way to learn drone racing and learn how to start a local club.

And with schools, clubs and organisations up and down the country pushing STEM experiences, drone racing is a great way to engage with technology and stimulate the desire to learn more.

There is a huge industry of drone jobs and equipment growing across the world. These jobs will require people to fly, fix, build and repair drones but how do you even get started? What do you do to even start learning and flying drones?

I’ve enjoyed bringing FPV drone flying to the community since 2018 through running regular meetups and social flying events, all the way up to the largest international drone racing event the UK has ever - probably - held, at BIRD2025. I want to spread the joy of flight further and to more people, especially people who have never seen what these drones can do!

But the hobby is tricky to get into. New pilots are put off by the large technical barriers to overcome, and information is spread widely across forums, facebook and youtube making it difficult to know how to get started. This limits new pilots starting, I know it was daunting for me!

Rotor Racers has developed a range of packages from drop in taster sessions, to parties with friends, to full blown grand prix events and bespoke training for new clubs. This is a fun and structured way to get your first drone racing experience, learn to fly with friends and progres your skills all the way up to competing internationally!

We are excited to start sharing drone racing with more people and appreciate everyone who has helped get us this far.

If you fancy giving it a go, or learning more about what we can do for you, your friends, scout and cadet troops, schools and workplace team building, then take a look at our menu of options on the Rotor Racers page.
